Special Stitches

Back Loop Single Crochet (blsc)/Back Loop Double Crochet (bldc): Work sc/dc as normal except that you insert the hook not in both loops of the st, but in the loop that is further away from you.

Popcorn Stitch: A popcorn is a group of complete stitches usually worked into the same place, folded and closed at the top. To make a popcorn with 5 double crochet stitches: Make 5 dc in same stitch. Now take the hook out of the working loop, and insert it in the top of the first dc in the group. Pick up the working loop again and draw this loop through across the back to close the group together. Adjust the group (popcorn) so that it projects towards you.

TASSEL
Make one tassel. Here’s how to make a tassel:

1. Cut or fold up a sturdy piece of cardboard that’s about half to one inch longer than the desired length of the tassel you want to make. My tassel is 5 inches long so I used a cardboard 6 inches long.

2. Wrap the yarn lengthwise around the cardboard as may times as you need to get a good thick tassel. I wrapped the yarn for my tassel about 35 times.

3. Get another yarn cut to 24 inches and slip this under the wound yarn and pull up towards the top. Now tie this yarn (called a “hanging loop”) securely around the top of the tassel. Slide the tassel off the cardboard then cut the yarn at the base.

4. Cut another piece of yarn about 3 times the length of the tassel and wrap this tightly around all the strands about half to an inch away from the hanging loop of the tassel. Secure the ends of the wrapping yarn by threading them under the strands and down through the center of the tassel. Trim the ends with sharp scissors if desired.

ASSEMBLY AND FINISHING

Refer to the photograph for assembly.

Sew the tassel to the bottom of the pouch as shown in the photograph.

Slip one end of the strap through the wrong side of the pouch at rnd 17. Sew ball to end of strap. Slip the other end of the strap through the opposite side of the pouch. Sew other ball to end of strap. Weave in all ends.
